Vic Govt announces bounty on foxes, wild dogs

The Victorian Government has announced a $1 million bounty for wild dogs and foxes.

Farmers in areas affected by bushfires in the state's east will be paid $10 for every fox kill and $50 for a wild dog.

There have been more wild dog attacks since the fires, as the feral animals search for new food sources.

Frank O'Connor from the Victorian Farmers Federation says the new plan is good, but does not go far enough.

"I would prefer to see that twice a year we have a fox week across the state and bait the whole state and bash the fox numbers down," he said.

"In respect to the dogs, I think the prospect of aerial baiting is fairly inescapable and I'd like to see aerial baiting introduced together with the fox program twice a year." {mos_smf_discuss:The Campfire}
